Natalie Pettus, proprietor of Overlook Farm in Clarksville, Mo., has just added another element to her farmstead-restaurant-inn operation. Pettus recently took over the space formerly occupied by Cool Beans Coffee House at 108 Howard St., in downtown Clarksville. After a brief closure, it reopens today as The Farm Café.
Pettus told The Scoop that the fare at the 30-seat cafe will be a more casual version of what is offered down the road at The Station, the farm-to-table restaurant at Overlook Farm. The cafe will open at 6 a.m., so early risers can enjoy coffee with freshly baked pastries and house-made jams and jellies. The lunch crowd can sit down to a bowl of fresh soup, or time-pressed cyclists racing down Highway 79 and kayakers paddling the Mississippi River can take advantage of grab-and-go items like pizzas and sandwiches.
News of the opening of The Farm Café comes on the heels of other expansion plans for Overlook. Construction recently began on a barn that will be used for private events such as wedding receptions. On the agricultural side, Overlook Farm executive chef Mike Polcyn, who took over when Tim Grandinetti left the restaurant back in June, told The Scoop that the livestock component continues to grow with cows, pigs and more than 100 chickens being raised on the farm. A tilapia fish farm has also been installed on the property, as Feast recently reported.
