There is never-ending action in St. Louis’ restaurant scene. Here’s a quick bulletin to get you up to speed on what’s been cooking around town this week.
Exit 6 Brewery is close to opening. Owner Jeff Britton expects to open the brewery at 5055 Highway N in Cottleville in mid-July, as reported by Evan Benn of the Post-Dispatch. Patrons will be able to taste Exit 6’s own brews, as well as other draft and bottled craft beers, at the brewery, which does not have a kitchen, though guests are welcome to bring in their own pub grub.
UPDATE 7/12/11: Exit 6 Brewery owner Jeff Britton told The Scoop today that Friday, July 22 is his target opening date. Note that when the brewery and pub first opens, Exit 6 brews won’t be available. Guests will, however, be able to choose from other draft and bottled craft beers.
Smashburger, a national restaurant chain that touts a “better burger” made from 100-percent fresh Certified Angus Beef that’s smashed on a flat grill to sear in the juices, will open its first St. Louis area location this month. The restaurant will be located in St. Charles at 1981 Zumbehl Road, with doors opening on July 20. A second Smashburger is slated to open in Chesterfield this fall. The fast-casual restaurant will offer a few items specific to St. Louis among the burgers, hot dogs and shakes on the menu.
August 5 is the tentative date for the re-opening of St. Louis’ The Cheshire Inn — and the hotel’s tavern, Fox & Hounds. A tenant for the shuttered Cheshire Inn restaurant, located adjacent to the historic hotel, is still undetermined, according to company spokesperson Heather Strahorn.
Look for Pratzel’s Eastgate Bakery to open its storefront at 9265 Dielman Industrial Court in Olivette in mid- to late-August, according to owner Jon Mills, who purchased the beloved kosher bakery business in March from Ronnie and Elaine Pratzel.
And finally, Caitlin’s Green Eyed Grill has closed. As reported by St. Louis Magazine’s George Mahe, the restaurant located on the ground floor of the Dorchester at 665 S. Skinker Blvd., shuttered for good after service last Friday. The bar and grill opened last summer in the space formerly occupied by John’s Town Hall.
