081110_westendgrillThe St. Louis Blues may have a knack for exiting the playoffs before things get interesting, but the players’ careers off the ice offer no shortage of fascination. Tony Twist won a multi-million dollar defamation lawsuit against a comic-book publisher. Bernie Federko was the coach of a “professional” roller-hockey squad for a few years. And ’70s-era Blue Note Bob Hess, it turns out, has become a tequila expert.

Hess reps tequila and other liquors for Heaven Hill Distilleries, and he’ll pour the good stuff at the first tequila dinner at the West End Grill & Pub in the Central West End Tuesday, Aug. 17.

The five-course meal will include brie bruschetta with a watermelon relish, featuring a watermelon margarita made with Lunazul Blanco; fried cilantro-and-cheese orzo with garlic sauce, featuring a “Toby Wallbanger” (Lunazul Reposado, dark rum, gin, banana and melon liqueurs, bitters and Tabasco); shrimp wrapped in fire-roasted poblano peppers, fresh basil and citrus, featuring a top shelf margarita made with La Certeza Reposado; chicken-and-sausage paella with black-eyed peas, featuring a tequila sunrise made with La Certeza Blanco; and a cheese, fruit and crostini dessert plate, served with La Certeza Anejo.

Call 314.531.4607 for reservations, and be nice to Hess – or he’ll hip-check you.
