St. Louis City seeks public input to Soulard Market makeover
June 15th 02:06pm, 2011
As we first reported last month, the city of St. Louis is planning to give Soulard Farmers’ Market a facelift to maintain this, the oldest market west of the Mississippi River, for generations to come. A consulting firm recently began gathering input from market-goers on Friday and Saturdays at the market, but an online survey is now available. Those interested in voicing concerns regarding the existing market and potential improvements have until July 5 to complete the online survey, posted at soulardmarketsurvey.com. The results of the survey will be compiled in a master plan that is scheduled to be presented to the public in early 2012.

At this time, most of the vendors are excited and in favor of making some changes to the market to insure the market has a bright future. Since no plan has been brought to the vendors they really have nothing to be upset about. However it is unfortunate that two people that were involved in the 1999 plan are also involed in this plan which makes some vendors upset and nervous. You only have to go as far as Union Market in St. Louis or the City Market in Kansas City to see how renovations can riuned once great markets.
