Brennan’s in the CWE will close current space, plans to relocate in 2020
A Central West End favorite has announced it will close doors at its current location early next year. Owner Kevin Brennan announced in a release today, Dec. 2, that Brennan’s at 4659 Maryland Ave., will shutter and look for a new space.
“In Spring 2020, after 17 years of business on Maryland Avenue, Brennan's will close yet seek to reopen in the Central West End at another location. We look forward to the challenge of creating something new and original that still feels like something old and familiar.”
In a phone interview, Brennan said the St. Louis Chess Club is planning to expand into Brennan's space. He said he does not yet have a new space in mind for Brennan’s.
In the statement, Brennan thanked customers for their years of patronage.
“To put it simply, word got around about this big change sooner than we'd hoped. We can't tell you too much about our plans for the future at this time, but we're getting ahead of the rumors to let you know the situation.
“Thank you to everyone who has ever passed through our doors on Maryland [Avenue] at one point or another. As we work to finalize our plans for the future, we hope to see you in for a drink soon. We know one thing for sure, the next three months will be a wild ride.”
Brennan said the closure won’t affect Brennan’s Work & Leisure, the coworking and social space in Midtown that he opened last year.
