It’s rare for me to discover a white wine grape I never knew existed, especially one grown on vines more than a century old. Yet I’ve just met sauvignon gris. Only 300 cases of the perfumed, weighty 2014 Casa Silva Sauvignon Gris were imported from Chile. A natural, more intense mutation of sauvignon blanc, the wine has enough flavor, nose and character to make it an exciting addition to St. Louis’ wine scene. At a scant $20, oysters Rockefeller never paired so well.
