This month, choosing the cover was nearly impossible. It was the 10th anniversary of Sauce in print. Talk about pressure. We wanted the cover to represent the identity of the magazine as well as the issue itself – and, of course, we wanted it to look awesome. We had great ideas, but when it came down to it, we weren’t able to execute them quite the way we had hoped. And I’m glad we weren’t, because I love our October cover of a doughnut from Burger Bar that’s mentioned in our Dipped, Dunked & Dusted feature. This isn’t just a boring old doughnut; it’s a twist on something familiar. It represents the story (a trend we’ve been watching that’s all about updating a classic), and it epitomizes part of what we strive to do as a magazine every month: Tell stories that will surprise people. That, plus the fact that Halloween is around the corner and this doughnut is dressed up like a cheeseburger, makes me like it all the more. Oh, and did I mention that it was incredibly delicious? Yea, that helped, too.
