In addition to countless churches around the St. Louis area hosting fish fry Fridays, there are a number of restaurants offering Lent specials. Although the fish fry is a classic offering for the Lenten season, there are some other dishes available including tuna salad, tuna tartare, fish tacos and fish stews. Casa Don Alfonso Located in The Ritz-Carlton, Casa Don Alfonso offers upscale Mediterranean options featuring fresh, coastal ingredients. Some menu offerings that are ideal for those participating in Lent include Tuna Tartare with capers, parsley, mustard, chili pepper-scented mayonnaise, mint yogurt and bruschetta. There’s also Ziti with Lobster Ragu, highlighting coldwater lobster, Nicoise olives, anchovies, capers and chili flakes. Eckert’s Farm Eckert’s Country Restaurant in Belleville is offering a Lent menu, with specials such as the cod basket with fries and the cod platter with mac and cheese and fries. Guests may also purchase cod by the pound or opt for the Eckert’s Family Cod Dinner for Four to-go, which includes fries and mac and cheese. 951 S. Grace Meat + Three In addition to Grace’s fried Mississippi-raised catfish available daily, the restaurant is also offering Lenten-themed specials this season. King & I Thai Restaurant The Thai eatery is putting a twist on the classic fish fry with its Mango Salmon that features fried salmon topped with shredded green mango, red onion, carrots and cilantro, all dressed in a special Thai-style vinaigrette. Lion’s Choice Although it’s known for its roast beef sandwiches, Lion’s Choice will offer a crispy cod sandwich at all locations on Ash Wednesday, March 5, along with every Friday during Lent. The sandwich is served on a toasted sesame seed bun with a slice of melted Swiss cheese and tartar sauce. Available for purchase alone or as a meal with fries and a drink. Schlafly Beer During Lent, Schlafly Beer offers fish and fries and a catfish Po’Boy at all four brewpub locations, available for dine-in and pick-up. Session Taco Session Taco has a number of seafood offerings available for Lent including their Fish & Chip Taco. Created just for Lent, it features beer battered tilapia, malt vinegar fries, tomatillo tartar sauce, poblano slaw, and pickled pepper relish on a flour tortilla. Other Lenten-friendly options include Blue Crab Taquitos, Grilled Mahi Tacos, Lobster Tacos, Mango Habanero Shrimp and Baja Fish tacos. SqWires Each Friday, SqWires will offer a Fish Fry special from 4:30 to 9 p.m., or until sold out.
