Dogtown Pizza has launched a new brand, 3Gerards Pizza, as a tribute to St. Louis-style pizza. Debuting in stores this week, the line features crispy thin crust, sweet tomato sauce, creamy cheese and a variety of toppings. 3Gerards is available at all Dierbergs and Schnucks locations.
Created by Dogtown Pizza founder Rick Schaper and his brothers Bob, Tom and Scott, the brand honors their roots and the flavors St. Louisans know and love.
“Adding a new brand to Dogtown Pizza is a lot like a chef opening a second or third restaurant concept,” said Schaper. “I wanted to expand our product offerings while staying true to St. Louis, the city I live in and love.”
Pizzas include three-meat, cheese, sausage and pepperoni, sausage, pepperoni and bacon, pepperoni, supreme and STL Margherita. While the STL Margherita features mozzarella, the rest use a Provel-style of tangy cheese blend, all topped with Romano, Parmesan and oregano.
The name 3Gerards comes from a family story. When the third Schaper child was on the way, doctors warned their mother of serious health risks. He was given the middle name Gerard in honor of St. Gerard, the patron saint of healthy deliveries. The birth was safe – and so were the next two – each receiving Gerard as a middle name.
“My brothers and I grew up in St. Louis,” Schaper added. “We’d spend afternoons outside until dinner, riding bikes and visiting friends on front porches. We ate pizza anytime we could. This brand is a true tribute to that time and to St. Louis pizza.”
