Big Baby Q and Smokehouse opened its doors at 11658 Dorsett Road in Maryland Heights on Monday, April 18.
Ben Welch and his father Bennie Welch are partners in Maryland Heights’ newest barbecue restaurant, Big Baby Q and Smokehouse.
Primarily a carryout barbecue joint, Big Baby Q and Smokehouse offers standard and nontraditional smoked pork, beef, turkey, chicken and even a tofu option.
There’s a little bit of everything on the Big Baby Big Plate including brisket, ribs, turkey and pulled pork. Among the half a dozen sides are pork and collard greens and mac and cheese.
The Big Baby sandwich is a messy pile of juicy brisket, tender turkey breast, house-made pickles, coleslaw and a combo of the creamy Alabama white sauce and the sweet and zingy house barbecue sauce.
House-cured pastrami takes its turn over the smoke and can be ordered as a platter, served with two sides and Texas toast, or as a sandwich with a side.
The Loaded Smokehouse Potato is a fluffy potato piled high with baked beans, your choice of meat, cheddar cheese, sweet, tangy house barbecue sauce, a drizzle of chipotle sour cream and a sprinkle of barbecue seasoning.
The ribs are dry-rubbed and smoked onsite over cherry wood and oak. House-made baked beans and crunchy, bright pickles are among the side dish options.
Pastry chef Karolyn Page whips up the six house-made desserts including dulce de leche-raisin bread pudding.
