Lousies on the Loop has announced it is closing permanently with immediate effect. The restaurant, which was located at 567a Melville Ave. in University City’s Delmar Loop, offered loose meat sandwiches, or “lousies,” among a variety of breakfast and lunch dishes.

The closure was announced via social media on June 1, where an Instagram post showed a notice explaining the decision. “With heavy hearts, we have made the incredibly hard decision to close Lousies on the Loop permanently,” the statement read. “Running a restaurant can be rough and sometimes the numbers just don’t add up. At this time, we are making the best decision for our family, even though it means losing something we put our whole selves into building.”

Owners Daniel and Kelle Boyer opened Lousies on the Loop in October 2022. The restaurant followed in the footsteps of a number of other businesses that have passed through the space at 567a Melville Ave. in recent years, including Tasti TeaBing Bing and Moya Grill

The closure announcement signed off by thanking Lousies’ regulars, with a wistful nod to those who missed the boat entirely. “We’ve enjoyed sharing our food with you and it breaks our hearts to have to close up shop,” the statement said. “We will miss those of you who have turned into regular faces we see every week. And to those who we never got to feed, we’re sorry to have missed you.”

A request for further comment from Lousies on the Loop was denied.
