Need a vacation but can’t make it to the tropical destination of your dreams just yet? This July, Robust Bistro and Wine Bar at 227 W. Lockwood Ave. is swapping European elegance for tropical escapism with Tropic: A Tiki Takeover, a month-long transformation that brings island vibes to the heart of Webster Groves.
Running July 1 to 31, the event reimagines the restaurant’s bar and patio with vintage surf kitsch, lush décor and tiki flair, offering a full sensory escape without leaving town. Themed nights, playful drinks and island-style dishes are all on the menu as Robust trades its usual pours for palm fronds and punch bowls.
The tropical lineup includes handcrafted tiki cocktails, like The Island Oasis, a shareable blend of Unico Mezcal, Aperol, Chinola mango liqueur, lemon and grenadine, served with whimsical garnishes. Executive chef Zach Dale is crafting island-inspired specials such as Crabby Kahuna Puffs (a tiki spin on crab Rangoon) and ahi tuna and Spam fried rice.
“We wanted to do something a little unexpected this summer,” said co-owner Arlene Maminta Browne. “Tropic is our love letter to summer, vibrant, a little cheeky, and full of flavor. It’s about transporting our guests to a place of joy and celebration.”
Guests can join the fun on Tropic Tuesdays and Fire Fridays, which feature live music, fire performances and specialty cocktails. Tropical attire is encouraged every night. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome as space allows.
