Good news for folks on a gluten-free diet: There are a bunch of GREAT local restaurants ready to serve you.
If you see the sign for GREAT, or Gluten-Free Resource Education and Awareness Training, it means the restaurant has been trained to prepare foods for those with celiac disease, a genetic intolerance to the gluten found in wheat, rye and barley.
And the restaurants aren’t just going to serve you a salad. You can have gluten-free pizza, made and baked with care to prevent cross contamination, at Caito’s Sicilian Restaurant & Pizzeria, for instance. Other eateries that have completed GREAT, a program of the nonprofit National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, include Cafe Napoli, Fitz’s American Grill & Bottling Works, The Original Pancake House, and The Pasta House.
