Burger 809's new home in Citygarden in downtown St. Louis Credit: Lauren Healey

July turned out to be a month of high-profile openings, with the combined Alpha, Fountain and Steve’s concept finally opening their doors in the Delmar Maker District. Gerard Craft’s fast-casual concept Porano returned in Des Peres and Burger 809 found its own home in the beautiful City Garden restaurant space in downtown St. Louis. Finally, the long-awaited Target in Midtown opened its doors — and since we wrote about it, we’re claiming this one as a restaurant!

Closings were blessedly few, but each was a heavy hitter. It’s hard to say what we will miss most: beloved pub The Scottish Arms or the region’s only Kosher deli?
