Johnny’s Market is closing. The grocery store, which has been operating at 11555 Gravois Road in Sappington for nearly 70 years, will shutter on Oct. 13, as reported by Evan Benn of the Post-Dispatch.
But while one grocery store is closing, another is seeing new life. Owned by the Droege family for over 100 years, Droege’s Supermarket in Washington closed last year only to be reopened by family member Jeri Heisler (maiden name Droege) this past July in the form of John G.’s Tap Room. Jeri and her husband, Terry, also own Augusta Brewing Co., and John G.’s Bier Deck. Located next to Droege’s Catering at 109 W. Main St., the 160-seat tap room and restaurant features a full bar and food menu. Currently, John G.’s Tap Room primarily carries Augusta Brewing Co. beer, with 14 taps and 14 to 20 bottles. The tap room is open every day except Monday for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. More information about the new addition for the brewery is available on its Facebook page.
