The former Mosaic space, located at 1001 Washington Ave., is about to see new life. As reported by E.B. Solomont of St. Louis Business Journal, the owners of Michon’s Smokehouse signed a lease March 11 and plan to open doors May 1.
Michon’s currently has a location in Atlanta, but the family-run restaurant actually has roots in St. Louis. The original Michon’s, which opened in 1990, was located on South Florissant Avenue in Normandy; it was relocated to Atlanta in 2003.
Co-owner Natalie Michon said that in addition to smoked meats and barbecue, Michon’s is known for its Southern elegance. “St. Louis will remember us for our catfish nuggets and thick, smoked bologna sandwich,” she said.
Michon doesn’t have plans for major changes to the massive 6,000-square-foot space, noting that Mosaic’s interior color scheme is similar to the colors used in Michon’s Smokehouse in Atlanta. The restaurant is projected to seat 200 with space for another 25 seats on the outdoor patio.
The Atlanta location will remain open, and Michon’s brother Eric Tucker will be the general manager of the St. Louis location. In addition to lunch and dinner service, Michon’s Smokehouse will have a full bar, catering service and live music.
