Local, small-batch coffee roaster Mississippi Mud is teaming up with Art Saint Louis to open a hybrid cafe-art gallery downtown in the Park Pacific building at 1223 Pine Street.
The coffee house will be called Mississippi Mud Coffee Roasters and will offer coffee drinks, teas and smoothies, as well as pastries and other fare from Something Elegant Catering. Among the highlights of the planned progressive coffee program will be a pour-over made with a Sowden Oskar SoftBrew coffee brewer. Its filter keeps the ground beans separate from the water and doesn’t force, press, steam or burn the beans. Mississippi Mud is the only retailer in the area with the Sowden system, according to Mississippi Mud owner Chris Ruess.
Besides seating inside the 2,000-square-foot space and outside on the sidewalk, patrons will find bench seating in the gallery area, where beverages will be permitted. The cafe joins recently opened Alumni Saint Louis in the historic Park Pacific building and is slated to open July 13. Its hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., with evening and late-night hours on weekends in conjunction with art shows.
