Two new food trucks are slated to debut this June. The Cheese Shack will specialize in grilled cheese “shackwiches.” Owner Dan McKean told The Scoop that among the cheesy gourmet sandwich offerings, customers will find: spinach and pancetta topped with melted cheese on sourdough; a hot Italian sandwich loaded with mozzarella and pepperoni, swathed in garlic butter, toasted and accompanied by a marinara dipping sauce; and The Shack Special featuring barbecued pulled pork, cheddar cheese and a slice of macaroni and cheese all piled between thick slices of Texas toast. Among sides, The Cheese Shack will offer hand-cut fries and deep-fried macaroni and cheese balls made with a combination of cheddar and Gruyère. You can track The Cheese Shack on Facebook. McKean, who is licensed in St. Louis City and Jefferson County, said he could be serving the lunch crowd as early as this week.
Another meals-on-wheels project ready to turn on the ignition is Steamroller Bagel and Deli, a mobile eatery serving a rotation of specialty sandwiches on bagels from Pratzel’s Eastgate Bakery. Owner Matthew Cobaugh will be paving his path during lunch hours as well as late into the evenings on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Bagel-lovers can keep up on Steamroller’s whereabouts on Twitter @steamrollerstl and on the truck’s website.
