Jon and Holli Kercher are the new owners of The Gumbo Shop and Fish Market. Jon Kercher has been cooking at the back-of-the-house for about a year now. He and his wife purchased the 11-year-old restaurant from Mary and Sid Roberts, who sold the business at 9501 Manchester Road in Rock Hill to return to Sid Roberts’ native Louisiana.
According to Jon Kercher, no changes are slated for the menu. “It’s hard to make a perfect menu more perfect,” he said, noting that the recipes are attributable to the great-great-great-grandmother of Cajun-blooded Sid Roberts.
One thing that the Kerchers did do as new proprietors of The Gumbo Shop: double its seating capacity. The couple has leased the space next to the small restaurant and opened interior access between the two dining areas.
