1dogtown-pizzaAs this latest snowstorm comes to an end, most of us are stuck with the load of bread, milk and eggs we stocked up on just in case. What were we planning to make? French toast?

The bad part: the snow is scheduled to return next week. The good? We can grab something much more exciting from the grocery this time around. Instead of the staples, try stocking up on Dogtown pizza. These locally made frozen pizzas are all St. Louis style, complete with that crispy cracker crust ever-so-popular in the Gateway City. Dogtown doesn’t let the local connections end there, though. The owners have partnered with several St. Louis institutions, including The Hill’s Vitale’s Bakery, to deliver a product that’s local, convenient and downright tasty. The owners use a blend of cheeses, rather than strictly Provel, which gives a little of the trademark tang without all the stringiness. We like the sauce a lot, too: not too sweet and just enough of it to compliment – rather than overpower – the other ingredients.

Dogtown offers a number of varieties, ranging from plain cheese to the deluxe, which includes sausage (made on The Hill), veggies and bacon. We’re partial to the tomato-basil-garlic we picked up recently at the Dierberg’s in Brentwood. They’re available at Straub’s too. So next time the weather gets nasty, ditch the French toast and try a piping hot Dogtown pizza instead. Trust us, a snow day has never tasted so good.
