South City’s latest coffee shop has officially opened for business. Ursa Minor Coffee debuted today, July 9, at 5760 Chippewa St., the space adjacent to Craft Beer Cellar.

The location most recently housed the second location of Living Room, which shuttered earlier this year. Ursa Minor owner Ben Hoelzer worked at that shop and decided to take over the business and make it his own.

“I had toyed with the idea the last few years,” Hoelzer said of opening his own place. “I saw the opportunity to strike out on my own.”

Hoelzer said he’s currently serving Living Room coffee and is sourcing pastries from them as well, though he plans on roasting his own coffee and bringing in different food options in the near future.

Ursa Minor, named after Hoelzer’s pet Pomeranian, Bear Bear, is open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
