Editor’s Note: Kirkwood Station Brewing Co. has closed

Looking for weekend plans? Starting tonight, head to downtown Kirkwood for its 53rd annual Greentree Festival. Once you’ve had your fill of music, food and fun family activities and need somewhere indoors to relax, head over to Kirkwood Station Brewing Co.

From the fruity, spicy Belgian-style saison, Big Five-OH (clocking in at 8.2 percent ABV) to the smooth Belgian witte, an unfiltered wheat beer 4.2 percent ABV), there is quite the spectrum of flavors, styles and strengths available at this local craft brewery. But why try only a couple brews when you can easily try everything on tap?

For just $1 per 4-ounce pour, create a flight of five beers, or go for the gold and get all 11 (including the newly released Pumpkin Ale). Be sure to have a bartender arrange your picks in the right order, brewmaster Dave Johnson advised. Rather than organizing by style, color or ABV, Johnson prefers the flight to be sampled from, “the most delicate flavors to the most powerful – you don’t want to blow your palate out on the second beer and not be able to taste the other ones,” he said. “It’s a gradual upping of the flavor profiles.”

Can’t tear yourself away from the Greentree Festival’s kids’ dog show? No problem. Kirkwood Station will have several beers on tap available at each beer trailer.
