Abby’s Shell Corner Cafe has closed. The Riverfront Times’ Ian Froeb reported late last week that there were signs that the cafe, located downtown at 1221 Locust St., inside the Shell Building, might have shuttered. An employee at the Shell Building confirmed this morning that doors have been locked at the cafe for nearly a month. The breakfast and lunch spot opened in September under the ownership of Abby Hernandez and her niece Ammie Maminta-McSwain. The duo offered typical American quick bites but also culled from their Filipino heritage to offer classic Filipino specialties among lunch specials. The Scoop has been unsuccessful in contacting Hernandez or Maminta-McSwain to discuss the reason for the closure.
