In a blender or food processor, blend together the orange juice, ice cubes and basil, making sure not to blend too long or the basil may lose its color.
Combine the sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan and heat until the sugar has dissolved.
With the blender running, slowly add the sugar-lemon syrup, making sure not to make the mixture too warm.
Strain the basil mixture and quickly cool it in an ice bath before spinning in an ice cream machine.
