The Scoop: Pappo’s Pizzeria & Pub to open in former Six Row space, launch house beer

081115_pappos   The Falstaff Brewing Co. Building 1 in Midtown will reopen this fall with a new resident and a familiar face. Former Six Row Brewing Co. brewmaster Evan Hiatt will man the kettles when Pappo’s Pizzeria & Pub  opens its third location at 3690 Forest Park Ave., as reported by Feast. Six Row ceased brewing operations at that location in June. Co-owner Mike Rami said Six Row is currently on the hunt for a new location and refocusing its operations. With two other pizzerias in Springfield and Osage Beach, Missouri, Pappo’s owner Christopher Galloway felt the location was a prime opportunity to expand Pappo’s offerings. “We love to go into areas with an urban feel and potential for growth,” said Galloway in an email. “We have always had the desire to brew our own house beer, so when we were approached by the landlord, we jumped at the chance." Galloway also jumped at the chance to bring Hiatt on board. “He is a talented young brewer, and we will give him the resources he needs to brew excellent beer," he said. Hiatt’s beers will be sold on draft under the Pappo’s Brew Co. label at all three locations. Offerings will include an Imperial hazelnut brown ale, a Belgian-style tripel ale, a session India Pale Ale, an American witbier ale made with lemon and coriander and an Oktoberfest Marzen lager. Galloway said he encouraged Hiatt to create brews that pair well with Pappo’s St. Louis-style thin crust pizza topped with everything from traditional mozzarella to breaded eggplant and Italian meatballs. Pappo’s also offers toasted ravioli along with salads and pasta. After redecorating and adding a deck on the back of the space, Galloway hopes to open by mid-October.
