Bijoux Handcrafted Chocolates is closing its Des Peres location in August

Bijoux Handcrafted Chocolates will close the doors to its original Des Peres location at 13014 Manchester Road at the end of August. Owner Meggie Mobley opened the confectionery's second location at 7930 Big Bend Blvd. in Webster Groves in December 2022 in a much larger space. As her lease is ending in September, and multiple members of her Des Peres staff are moving on, she decided it was the best time to put all her effort into the most profitable location.

“The (Des Peres) store is technically making money. It's supporting itself and the people who work there, but it's not worth it anymore. With employees leaving, it felt really silly to hire a whole new set of staff to run a space that's essentially just breaking even at this point,” Mobley said.

Focusing on the larger location will allow Mobley to expand Bijoux’s offerings. She is looking to expand Bijoux’s snack offerings to multiple different price points.

“I've had a lot of people who have told me they would normally go to Des Peres, but they choose to come to Webster because it just has a bigger variety, which is something I'm just not physically able to do over at Des Peres,” Mobley said.

In a social media post, Mobley estimated that the Webster Groves location was taking 70% to 80% of the Des Peres location’s sales.

The Des Peres location will close Aug. 31.
