Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream has closed its Mehlville location, plans to open another this fall

The last Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream location at 4348 Telegraph Road in Mehlville has closed.

Since the opening of the first location on Manchester Road in Maplewood in 2017, owner Eric Moore has opened or attempted to open five locations across the St. Louis area. As reported by the Riverfront Times and the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Moore has been sued by the landlords of all locations for failing to pay rent. The Mehlville location opened in 2021 as the chain’s second storefront. In June of 2022, the landlord of the Mehlville location alleged that Moore owed more than $28,000 in rent, late fees and other charges. Moore signed a consent agreement to pay $31,000.

Moore said the closure of the Mehlville location is part of his plan to scale back and retool the company. He plans to open the nearly complete location at 500 N. Grand Blvd. within the next 30 days.

“I’m just at a point where I need to reevaluate where I am and where the company is and decide what to do moving forward. But I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching, and I still think that there are tens of thousands of people that love the product that we put out, and that is why I am going to open the Grand Center location and try to rebuild within the St. Louis market and finish off the debts that we’ve incurred over the last few years,” Moore said.
