Wellspent Brewing Co. will reopen in early 2020
Wellspent Brewing Co. has a new lease on life. Founder and head brewer Kyle Kohlmorgen said Wellspent, which closed in August, will reopen in its original space at 2917 Olive St., in Midtown sometime in early 2020.
“Behind the scenes, we’ll be doing business better and more efficiently,” he said. Kohlmorgen said local entrepreneur Eben Shantz, whose businesses include Modern Auto Parts, recently purchased Wellspent and will apply his business acumen to the brewery.
“The piece we needed was to get a top-down perspective,” Kohlmorgen said. “We were lucky to find [Shantz]. We didn’t expect to find who we found. I can’t quite wrap my head around about how lucky we are. ”
Kohlmorgen said the look and feel of the tasting room space will remain much the same. “We aren’t changing much,” he said. “We’ll have the same ethos of service and beer.”
Initially, Kohlmorgen plans to offer more bottles to go, as well as a small number of cans to go. Eventually he hopes to hire a tasting room manager, as well. He said some of the original staff will also return.
“We were brewing right up until we closed, so we have a back stock of beer,” he said, so there’s inventory to start available, including some interesting barreled brews. Kohlmorgen said he’s only waiting on renewing city permits in order to reopen doors.
“I’m stoked to keep doing what we were doing, but with an extra set of hands,” he said.
