Salt + Smoke will open Oh Hey! Barbecue at Schnucks in Kirkwood this fall

Salt + Smoke will open a counter service barbecue concept this fall called Oh Hey! Barbecue inside the food hall at Schnucks in Kirkwood, located at 10233 Manchester Road. Oh Hey! Barbecue will offer meals to go in addition to dine-in seating at the Schnucks food hall, serving a menu that will combine a few favorite Salt + Smoke dishes alongside exclusive Oh Hey! Barbecue items.

Oh Hey! Barbecue will take over the spot at the Schnucks food hall vacated earlier this year by The Shaved Duck. As the latest addition to the food hall, the new barbecue concept will join Seoul Taco and The Greek Kitchen in providing counter service dining to Schnucks customers.

“A dear old friend of mine works at Schnucks and they had this opportunity and so she reached out to gauge our interest,” Schmidt said. “We immediately jumped all over it, because why would you ever not want to work with one of the most beloved and iconic brands in St. Louis?”

Oh Hey! Barbecue will cater equally well to the individual customer grabbing a quick meal as to somebody who needs to feed a family. “It’s a really great fit if you're coming home from work at 5 o'clock and you can stop with us and get one of our family meal deals that feeds four to eight, and have that ready to serve your family when you get home, and then the groceries for the rest of the week,” Schmidt said.

A few favorite items will be carried over from Salt + Smoke, including smoked brisket, white cheddar cracker mac and pulled pork. However, Oh Hey! Barbecue will also distinguish itself from its sister brand with new items and its own takes on classic dishes like baby back ribs, potato salad and coleslaw. Schmidt said moves are also underway, with the backing of Schnucks, to secure a liquor license for Oh Hey! Barbecue that would allow beer and cocktail service.

While Oh Hey! Barbecue will set out to establish its own identity, Schmidt said Salt + Smoke fans will be right at home. “It's the same ethos,” he said. “We care deeply about our guests, and we show that care by putting in the time and attention to making things from scratch so they taste better.”

Oh Hey! Barbecue is currently aiming for an October launch. “We welcome Oh Hey! Barbecue to our store and to the Kirkwood community – a city that we have served for nearly 70 years,” said Schnucks Kirkwood Store Manager Eric Pritchett in a statement. “Our communities depend on local businesses, and they, in turn, depend on Schnucks, and that’s why we continue to partner with local restaurants, farmers and vendors to support the best the Midwest has to offer and provide these products to our customers.”
