Century Coffee Company now open at City Foundry STL in Midtown

Century Coffee Company opened on Dec. 1 in the food hall at City Foundry STL, located at 3730 Foundry Way in Midtown. The elevated coffee concept features a new generation of espresso machines and serves drinks including a custom Century Coffee Company blend made with beans from a range of local roasters like Goshen Coffee Roasters, Blueprint Coffee and Switch Coffee Collective, among others.

Century Coffee Company is a hospitality brand from New + Found, the team behind City Foundry STL. Matt Foster, formerly of Kaldi’s Coffee and a previous winner of the U.S. Coffee in Good Spirits contest, will serve as the concept’s general manager.

The name is an homage to Century Electric, the manufacturing hub that once occupied the City Foundry STL site. The coffee shop's 795-square-foot space features open shelving, exposed brick walls and ceilings, and combines bright, contemporary finishes with the industrial aesthetic found throughout City Foundry STL. Seating within the shop is limited to four barstools at the counter and a small table for two, but guests can also grab a seat in the food hall itself.

The coffee shop is equipped with state-of-the-art super-automatic Eversys espresso machines, which Foster said provide a consistent and quality drink every time. “It also frees up the baristas and allows them to engage with the guest,” said. Foster added that although the machines run automatically, Century Coffee Company’s baristas are still trained in the knowledge and skills required to program the machine with the correct dosage of espresso, grind size, extraction and more.

“A coffee spot has been the most requested stall since the food hall opened in 2021, so we knew we had to get it right,” said Ashley Hesjedal, an associate on the development team at New + Found, in a press release. “Century Coffee Company is a fresh and inspired coffee concept that’s been a passion project of the team at New + Found and Matt Foster."

Foster brings 15 years of experience in the specialty coffee industry to the table, as well as seven years in the spirits industry. Drawing on his experience with spirits, Foster recently launched his own coffee whiskey brand, Sol Luna, produced in partnership with local distiller Switchgrass Spirits. Foster said he hopes to utilize the full scope of his experience and bring coffee cocktails to City Foundry STL at some point in the future, though there are no firm plans for that yet.

Century Coffee Company is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
