Ichiro Ramen now open in Oakville offering array of Asian cuisine

Ichiro Ramen opened its doors on Wednesday, May 29, at 5638 Telegraph Road in Oakville. This family-owned and -operated business is the second venture of the Ye family, who formerly owned Yummy House in St. Charles.

“The customers seemed happy; it got really, really busy,” said manager Ray Sun, the son of chef-owner Amy Ye, who comes from Fujing in China’s southern tip. “We’re still getting into the groove, but it definitely went well.”

Already, a top seller is Super Ichiro Ramen with pork, chicken char siu and fish cake, followed by Sapporo Miso Ramen with pork and black fungus. Other offerings include Ichiro Ramen’s spin on tempura and katsu, udon, and Korean chicken.

Sun said the family hopes to fill a niche since the nearest ramen restaurant isn’t nearby.

The simple 2,400-square-foot interior is pleasant: booths and tables for 80 or so diners; and pale, wood-paneled walls. There’s the sound of family chatter coming from the kitchen. All ages are represented here, most notably Sun’s cousin Esther, 9, who was in charge of bringing the check.

The restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. It is closed on Tuesday
